Since I cannot get my brain to construct sentences this week for my Substack, I am re-posting my comments from Ask E. Jean and The Good In Us.
Since Alito's draft overturning Roe v. Wade is so horrifying, I am apparently not taking my own advice that I posted on The Good In Us.
I hope we do not lose ourselves to the anger we feel towards the republicans.
On Ask E. Jean, I wrote:
This horrifying decision mortifies me. It shook me to my core when it was announced on MSNBC. I HATE the republicans who voted for Donald.
I was going to say the American Bar Association should revoke each of the "justices" law license, but according to https://work.chron.com/can-practice-again-disbarred-21622.html says local jurisdictions only can do such a revocation.
I HATE feeling powerless until the November elections. The Democrats should run ads on how Manchin-Sinema are anti-woman because they refuse(d) to ALLOW debate on Women's Health Protection Act of 2021.
I was responding to the comment highlighted in blue:
I like the idea of demonstrating rape on chauvinistic men and the feeling of powerlessness since abortion will not be legal, but they would immediately change abortion's legality for themselves and no body else. Men will never learn!
I have experienced my mind going blank the May 4, 2022, overnight hours since I watched MSNBC's Lawrence O'Donnell opening monologue (at 3:45, it gets interesting) and his interview with Dahlia Lithwick and Michele Bratcher Goodwin (interview intro starts at 19:30 [important part: 24:25 - 27:40] - Here is the tweet where I ask for the video to be posted).
May 6, 2022:
Yes, I have memory problems that a medical doctor and / or medicine cannot solve. However, Congress passing laws protecting abortion rights, expanding the Supreme Court, and enacting ethics laws that force investigations of Brett Kavanaugh and Ginni Thomas would solve my mind going blank. If Congress just passed a law protecting abortion rights, I fear the Supreme Court would find a way to nullify that law, too.
Before you criticize the sudden onset of my memory problems, please watch Lawrence's opening monologue where he talk's about Alito's citation of 1644’s Edward Coke as a basis for overturning Roe.
To guard against becoming a bitter(?) person that I do not want to become, I will try to remember not to be consumed by my feeling of helplessness and fear. Since I have no regrets, I do not know if “bitter” is the right word. Thank you, Madonna.
Even though I felt better after writing the last paragraph (click on the links), MSNBC's Nicolle Wallace and Tatum Hunter did a segment (starts at 37:24 - I cannot find the MSNBC video - I will update this if I find it) on how Your phone could reveal if you’ve had an abortion. Ari Melber talked about how GOP Lawmakers Now Demanding LGBT Content Warnings for TV Shows 37 seconds into his show.
I will try to stay true to myself and remember that life will be tough until the November 8, 2022, election.
Hang in there, Caroline. When I feel assaulted by the news--nonstop, these days--I remind myself that I have to save my strength for helping to get out the vote. Thanks for those Madonna songs.
